How to convince unaware listeners to grab an album of an artist who, due to commercial reasons, is being constantly ignored by Polish media; whose naive nickname puts a complaisant smile upon a face and who is usually associated with the dance music covered by a thick layer of dust? How to convince them that inside the CD case having, to make the things worse, an incredibly kitschy cover graphics, they would find a truly innovating and a very ambitious album? Apart from a vivid encouragement to listen to it, all that can be done is to present its very favourable and yet still objective characteristics.

The tunes included on the album belong to two, significantly different currants: symphonic pop-dance and particularly dynamic pop-rock compositions, having the force and a fine, sharp instrumental sound, never experienced before in DJ BoBo³s music. The idea was to create an album being a kind of soundtrack for a musical show, therefore it has been entirely written and composed with a view to the next (after Pirates Of Dance Tour 2005) immense show: Vampires Alive 2008. All the thirteen tunes, including the three intros, constitute a fluent, continuous story, interlaced with truly movie-like bridges and sound scenes.

The single Vampires Are Alive, which promotes the album, inscribes in the first of the above-mentioned currents. Typical pop-dance vocals and such drums and percussions base-line have been combined with vigorous sounds of a real symphonic orchestra. This is an evident tribute to all the listeners appreciating the most the so-called "old image" of DJ BoBo. However, these pieces are exceedingly more ambitious than the old compositions from many years ago. Much more interesting than the released single is Because Of You, that seduces with the mildness of its symphonic sounds, turning into some very powerful sequences of drums, cellos and double-basses; all that has been seasoned with male chorus and some gentle electronic supplements. We Are What We Are, together with its epic intro Angels Of Darkness is the third and the last piece close to the dance music gender; less symphonic elements have been applied here. The children choir and the bridge performed by an infant solo singer, decide of the originality of this song.

Welcome To Eternal Youth is a humoristic, quasi-theatrical intro that changes into pop-rocky Vampires Celebrate which on its turn, can be compared to Around The World; however, the guitars are quite stronger here, there is no rap (rap appears in as few as one piece), and the alto and baritone vocals are full of energy. Creature Of The Night is the absolute pearl on the album: it's an outstandingly written rocky piece whose electronic sounds, resembling first arranging of that kind from the '80s, turn into a race of electric guitars; the vocals are also vivid, dynamic and, once again, rocky. No collateral listener would believe that what he can hear is the work of the same man, who entertained/ sickened whole the world with the song Chihuahua. Another great position, that takes from the rock music of the '80s, is Blood On Fire, preceded by the intro Beautiful, in which appear the only rap verses, so typical for DJ BoBo.

Rock The Night is the song that, without a doubt, will be opening the incoming show; its sounds take us again into the 80s and evoke the one and only Queen, mainly thanks to a strong, male, rocky chorus, great electric guitar and drums opening the song and building up the tension. Like in case of majority of the pieces on the album, vocals of DJ BoBo are here unusual, surprising and experimental. Dangerous is a more contemporary kind of pop-rock, with an excellent beginning which also lifts up emotions. The song is finely seasoned with powerful alto female adlibs, significantly different form those that can be heart in Vampires Are Alive. I'm Crazy could be described as a fusion of pop-rock and guitar latino-pop, with its characteristic sounds. This is a very successful example of dealing with this musical gender, the more that some past results were not astonishing (Music Is My Passion, Hey Nanana). A new solution applied here is renouncing long verses in favour of many short ones, mixed with various vocals.

The unique, and truly charming, ballad on the album is We Gotta Hold On: a brilliant composition based on the piano, symphonic string section, soul chorus and a vocal dialogue of two voices: applause for the emotions expressed in a very convincing way and for the attention paid to the details. It is a real pearl among DJ BoBo's ballads which makes the most popular Love Is The Price (studio version!) sound like an exercise of an inexperienced musician.

It's already in its demo version that Vampires has been decreed by many fans and some random listeners the best DJ BoBo album that has been issued during fifteen years of his career. All you need is a bit of courage not to be deterred by its trashy exterior and to let yourself find out its excellence. According to an English saying: don't judge the box by its cover. The conclusion is: buy the album without hesitating; it is a masterpiece of the popular music.
